Benjamin Hopkin Evans Service in World War II

Hopkin, born in Cross Inn, served with the 1st Battalion of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers between 1944 and 1946. This Battalion was part of the 14th Army (also known as "The Forgotten Army", which saw action in Burma, Rangoon, Kohima and Imphal. They suffered a loss of over 1,378 men. A Monument was erected at Kohima in memory of the dead.

Hopkin survived the war, dying in 2006. His younger brothers still live in the area, Glyn in Cross Inn and Isaac in Nebo.
